Donne was a British artist who spent time studying in Paris at the Académie Julian which favoured a traditional studio-based training method. However in his time there he would have been exposed to the Impressionists and the Nabis who viewed painting ‘en plein air’ as an integral part of how they worked. This vibrant little oil sketch of Barmouth with the clouds racing over the hills really captures a moment in time.
