Winifred Pickard was born in Sherington, Buckinghamshire in 1908. She was largely self-taught although she did attend printmaking classes later in life at St Alban’s School of Art where she was taught by the artist John Brunsdon well known for his mastery of etching. Her prints are always idiosyncratic and characterful, with a touch of humour, and she clearly enjoyed using pattern and colour.
