Long grew up in Bristol, and trained at the West of England College of Art.  He mainly paints landscapes and seascapes and is a member of the Bristol Savages, as well as a founder member of the Dobunni Painters, dedicated to the art of landscape painting.  In his own words ‘‘The majority of my work has been figurative landscapes in oils and acrylics, exploring various types of landscapes in different seasons of the year.  I have drawn and painted in a classic English style with an emphasis on subtle tones and distant horizons.’
